Chris Cahill, Lab Manager Alevtina Pinkhasov, Histology Tech Susan Bonner-Weir, Core Director
The Microscopy/Histology Core facilitates the ready availability of sophisticated morphological techniques by providing electron microscopic services, a confocal microscope facility, along with resource for protocols, analysis and interpretation. Preparation of frozen or paraffin sections from tissues provided by investigators will be added to the services as a fee-for-service effort in the near future.
Services Offered and Planned:
a. Tissue preparation/embedding/ sectioning: Fee for service (not yet available)
1. Paraffin embedding and sectioning. Fixed tissue will be prepared in investigator’s lab and brought to the core for a weekly scheduled paraffin embedding. Unstained and H&E sections and their blocks will be returned to the investigator.
2. Cryostat sectioning. Frozen blocks of tissue will be prepared by the investigator and brought to the core technician with instructions. Unstained and H&E sections and the blocks will bereturned to the investigator.
b. Transmission electron microscopic analysis.
c. Immunochemistry on ultrastructural level.
d. Confocal microscope use: the maintenance and supervision of the microscope, which is a complex piece of equipment. In addition, the Core Manager trains new users of the confocal microscope.
e. Consultation on histological and morphological analysis and interpretation
